Sharing the Weight of Motherhood, 2020
Video, 8 minutes 24 seconds

Sharing the Weight of Motherhood is inspired by mobile apps’ use of vegetables and fruits to communicate the growth of fetuses with new parents. The size of an orange is, of course, not uniform. However, it provided one of the few physical images of my unmet child in the early days of my pregnancy that was colored with excitement and anxiety. As fetuses grow, their physical presence becomes more prominent through their weight, and mothers carry them around everywhere without a break. Even after giving birth, mothers keep carrying their babies around during their infancy and beyond. I fantasize about the ability to share the weight of motherhood with my relatively grown-up child while celebrating the achievement of our first year through this piece.
